I've been writing code in front-end of the web for years, but today I will share how learning on Bangkit Academy helps me shift faster from web to mobile.

As a computer science student pursuing my dream of becoming a software engineer, I sought trustworthy knowledge resources to advance in my field. In short, I discovered Bangkit, a career readiness program by Google with support from GoTo, Traveloka, and Deeptech Foundation. The curriculum offers three paths: machine learning, mobile development, and cloud computing. Choosing the mobile development path for Android, I faced challenges in transitioning from web development. Adapting to new environments and learning mobile developmentโ€™s behavior and programming paradigm required flexibility. To navigate this, I identified five key adaptability strategies:

  1. Interacting: I actively engaged with my peers to understand their perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. This helped in broadening my understanding and forming study groups for collaborative learning.

  2. Achieving: I set specific, measurable, and achievable goals for each assignment. Breaking down complex problems into smaller tasks made the learning process more manageable and helped me track my progress effectively.

  3. Learning: Exploring different learning resources and experimenting with different study techniques, such as visual aids, mnemonic devices, and problem-solving strategies, allowed me to find the most effective methods for my learning style. This adaptability in study techniques enhanced my retention and comprehension.

  4. Working: At Bangkit, we focus on both hard skills (mobile development) and soft skills (self-development). Balancing these requires effective time management. I created a schedule with specific slots for soft skills, ensuring ample time for understanding and practicing mobile development. I Actively participating in collaborative learning with other cohorts on problem sets enriched my understanding and improved teamwork and communication skills.

  5. Thinking: The soft skill sessions enhanced my critical thinking. I learned to analyze problems by breaking them into smaller parts, identifying patterns, and applying programming concepts to create effective solutions in mobile app development.

Joining Bangkit and shifting from web to mobile development required a holistic approach, involving interpersonal skills, goal-setting, resource exploration, time management, and a transformation in thinking. This adaptability not only led to success in software engineering but also enriched my overall skill set.
